The camera of the Galaxy S4: what it really is

What really is the camera feature integrated picture of the Samsung Galaxy S4? The question deserves to be asked. From our side, we have (already) the answer.

Our colleagues Gizmodo.com had the time to play long with Samsung Galaxy S4, and by extension, to test the potential of the camera function. This function has also been compared to that embedded in the Sony Xperia Z, HTC One, Nokia Lumia 920 and Apple iPhone 5. Here's what stands out:

Close-up, full day:

The Xperia Z, S4 and iPhone 5 all do a good job, however the iPhone 5 is needed, beating the S4 on the issue of details reproduced, and the Xperia Z on color management. The HTC One ensures the task, but unfortunately the pictures taken leave reflected a little fuzzy, reflecting the limits of its sensor. Finally, color management by the Lumia 920 in this test are quite fantastic. This disqualifies him from office.

Winner: iPhone 5

  Low light without flash:

Test complicated than the latter. Without the help of LED flash, smartphones have been damaged. All, apart from the iPhone 5, have a night mode automatically. Moreover, it is an automatic mode that was favored during this test, since it is in this way that the pictures will be taken of this kind by the average user. In short, the Galaxy S4 and Xperia Z are very weak when it comes to taking pictures in low light without flash. The iPhone 5, meanwhile, produces shots pretty basic, colored grain, while the Lumia 920 and HTC One is doing well. The Lumia 920 even better than its direct competitor, for once!

Winner: Lumia 920

Low light with flash:

Difficult to take a good shot with a flash. And yet sometimes impossible to do without. In this exercise, the HTC One is doing particularly well, and avoids the classic pitfall, consisting of "illuminate" the scene so grotesque. However, S4 and Lumia 920 two points to make in low light with flash all have. The first transcribed pretty much details, but drags a shadow in the background. Well before the second stage, but against evil by not betraying colors. Too bad the iPhone 5 and Xperia Z are virtually out of the game with their flashes completely absurd.

Winner: HTC One

Landscape, daylight:

And outside? Well, this year, the Lumia 920 rayon is comfortable, and we also proves to detail can be seen through by the feats performed by its dynamic range. The sky is exposed correctly, and the colors are respected at all levels. If one looks more closely at the Galaxy S4, but the HTC One, we see that both provide the exposure, but it would nevertheless tend to think that the pictures produced by the Galaxy S4 are detailed. The iPhone 5 did a good job, but he suggests as slight distortions on the details. Xperia Z birth of shots badly exposed. Fun Fact: In addition to clear, it was difficult to determine the favorite between the Lumia 920 and Lumia 920!

Winner: Lumia 920

In the end

HTC One  and Nokia Lumia 920 are always the best cameraphone, though can say. Moreover, these two stand out thanks largely to their ability in low light. To focus on the Galaxy S4, the new kid is doing pretty well, making sharp photos in most cases. Unfortunately, in low light, it is a disaster. Moving quickly on the Xperia Z, enough offset from its competitors, to highlight the delay already accumulated by the iPhone 5, a little more than 6 months after its release!
